Squeaker-Chan in Japan

We're in the middle of Maeve's first trip outside the U.S., and it's been quite a ride so far. We've been staying with Aaron and Tiffany and their two kids (Mia, four years, and Rhett, 13 months) at their temporary home in Tokyo, specifically, the Shibuya ward.

One of the best known sights in Shibuya is the "scramble" street crossing in Hachikō Square, where several major roads converge in what looks like a Japanese Times Square. Unlike in the NYC version, this intersection, like others in Tokyo, has traffic controls set so that all pedestrians cross from all directions at the same time. Check it out:

The scramble was featured in one scene in the movie Lost in Translation. It's this crowded a lot of places here, but boy, is it fun!

And yes, that is Cameron Diaz on a huge billboard talking on a cell phone in an ad for Soft Bank.
