More Slices of Squeaker Pie

More videos. Enjoy!

On June 14, Maeve finally got her first ride on my bike with her ride-along bike seat, after a false start the weekend before when I couldn’t repair my flat rear tire. Tracey caught the first few seconds for posterity:

In this one, Maeve and Declan goof around in their usual post-dinner tub time, with an intrusion by Mookie, always a ham for the camera:

Declan talks like crazy these days, doing linguistic back flips when a few weeks ago he was barely able to do a somersault. One of his favorite words is kitty or kitty-cat, and he has plenty of opportunities to say it. Here's one:

Until last weekend, Maeve was engaged in a kind of popper cold war, occasionally flaring into actual conflict, with a younger rival down the street. The neighbor has a classic popper as well as a (clearly inferior) musical popper-like push-toy that sounds like a jack-in-the-box when it rolls. According to the rules of toddler warfare, Maeve was always offered the musical popper-like push-toy when they played together, though she always insisted that she wanted to "share" the (real) popper. Strategic interventions allowed her to use the (real) popper on occasion, but it always had to be returned, with frequent tears as a consequence. In keeping with cold war logic, the two rivals have now reached a state of peaceful coexistence through the introduction of a popper into Maeve's personal arsenal, thanks to the generosity of Halley (and her parents), who has outgrown hers and has donated it to Maeve's cause. Here's Maeve trying it out on the front porch on a rainy, cool first day of summer:

That's the sound of détente.

  1. Aw, too bad we live so far away. Alex and Maeve would have a blast pushing their poppers together! He didn't really like his until recently.
