More from Alaska

We're still at it, posting the Alaska photos from a few weeks ago. After our hike on July 6, we were kind of in the neighborhood, so we called Tracey's college friend Suzanne, who also went to graduate school with us for a couple of years and shared a house with Tracey when they first moved there. She and her husband, Dave, live in Anchorage with their son, daughter, and a baby on the way. We stopped in for a quick visit that afternoon and then had pizza with them one evening before we left.

On July 9, Tracey, Maeve, and I took a ride with Grandma Kay to Girdwood, home of Mount Alyeska, the major ski resort in the region, about 40 miles southeast of Anchorage along Turnagain Arm. Here we are at the Bake Shop, where we had lunch:

And here are Grandma Kay and Maeve at the entrance to the Alyeska Resort hotel:

Tracey and Maeve hanging out on the back deck of the hotel, where we stopped for a coffee break:

When we came back from Girdwood, we stopped at the Alaska Wild Berry Products shop in Anchoarge, where they sell lots of delicious treats, some of which are not coated in chocolate. (But you have to look pretty hard to find those.) Here are Momma and Maeve in front of the Wonkaesque fountain of chocolate near the main entrance:

And here's Maeve having another close encounter with a stuffed animal "bearing" a distinct resemblance to the real thing:

  1. I'm on the temp disabled list these days so I have lots of non-golf time to cruise the net. Just caught up on the past two months of Maeve's blog. Maeve, you're a real movie star. I love all the great pics and movies of you. I especially liked the fishtank episode and the dancing gopher. Your mom and dad are great to take you to all those interesting places. Love, Grampy
