Maeve Says, "Mommy Sit Down!"

Even though I (Tracey) have taught language acquisition for 12-plus years, I find myself blown away by Maeve's recent linguistic development. Not long ago she had a handful of words and maybe a few tiny two-word sentences. But now, she talks. Really talks! Things like:
  • Mommy sit down.
  • Daddy go night night.
  • Mookie get down!
  • Declan's crying/sleeping.
  • Where'd it go?
  • I do buckles.
  • More eggs/peanut butter/crackers.
And even more amazingly, "please" (peese) and "thank you" (tank you) are a regular part of her lexicon. I am sure they won't last, but it's nice for now.

These are just a few of the dozens of sentences she now says.

Last weekend, she became very upset as we left the house in the car, saying something like "rocket" over and over and pointing at the house. We had no idea what she was saying (rocket? cracker?), so we tried to calm her down. An hour or so later when we returned, Brian realized that she'd been saying "jacket" because we'd forgotten to put on her red EWU jacket! While she's not 100% understandable, even to us, she's becoming clearer every day.

And for fun, here's a picture of her climbing out of the dryer. Toddlers go anywhere they want!
